Settlement
Ilisu
(Gakh area)
WHAT
IT IS POSSIBLE TO SEE
The
settlement Ilisu is in a very picturesque place on
mountain slopes become overgrown with a dense wood,
in height of 1200 meters above the sea level. In this
place two beautiful mountain rivers the Kurmukhchai
and the Agchaj merge. The rivers are very rough, and
their gorges are very deep. Here pass ancient caravan
tracks across the Main Caucasian Ridge to Dagestan.
Ilisu is a favorite vacation spot of tourists.
The
settlement consists of ancient districts - Senger,
Bujhag, Gala, Bajhar, etc. The Center of Ilisu is
in a place named "Beshbulag". Near the settlement
there is a picturesque garden Fizuli and a waterfall.
There is located a legendary fortress "Sumukh" in
a section Bujhag, where the known film "Don't be afraid
- I am with you" was shot. In Ilisu were also preserved
watchtowers (XVI-XVII century), an ancient bridge
"Ulu", a mosque of the XVIII-th century, an ancient
Muslim cemetery near the mosque. A fortress "Shamilgala"
was kept safe at the top of the mountain.
All
mountains surrounding these settlements go up the
Alpine meadows. Mountain woods around the village
are part of Ilisu's reserve. Nearby Ilisu there are
sulphurous thermal springs of mineral water possessing
medical properties. In gorge Agchaj there is sulphureous
geyser with medical properties. Local residents believe
this place to be sacred. By tradition a legendary
hunter Ovchu-Pirim once wounded a deer and began to
pursue it. The wounded deer, having come nearer to
this source, sat down in the water and in a magic
way grown in strength and at once galloped away. Having
come in surprise, Ovchu-Pirim lowered his injured
finger in the same spring and, on taking it out, saw
his finger cured. So, this spring found legendary
glory.
The
local kitchen in Ilisu is very various. They in abundance
use greens and dairy products. Local honey is in popular
demand. It is possible to try very tasty dishes of
mutton and beef. Women make such kinds of bread, as
tendir, fetir (unleavened wheat cake), feceli. From
local crafts it was kept carpet weaving. Local customs
of carrying out of wedding ceremonies were also retained.
While appearing at a wedding ceremony, one can admire
national dances and music. |
