WHAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO SEE

The settlement Hynalyg is located by terraces on a hillside. The roof of one house is a platform of a courtyard of the higher house. Houses arranged very compactly because of a steepness of slopes. There are small kitchen gardens in courtyards, where inhabitants of Hynalyg grow up potatoes, cucumbers, and cabbages. The population lives in 220 houses with total quantity of 1300 persons. Each family consists of 6 persons on the average. All the houses are ancient, their age makes about 200-300 years, and there are also more ancient constructions, a lot of ancient ruins. The settlement has preserved the architectural style and represents the completed ensemble. It has a very beautiful look both at the entrance to it from a valley of the river, and also above the located slopes and rocky sites.

New buildings are located a bit below the village. They are buildings of municipality, local 7- year school; the helicopter platform in the same place is located. Prominent feature of all courtyards is numerous walls laid out from briquettes of dry and crude dung fuel, by shape reminding bricks. It is the basic kind of the fuel used by the Hynalygs.

The settlement is located in a high-mountainous Alpine zone where the grass grows only. The Hynalygs also use electric range for heating and cooking. There is located the mosque Jhuma in the center, on the highest point of the settlement. In the VII-th century A.C the Muslim sanctuary pir "Burch" was constructed in the most ancient part of the habitation on a place of zoroastric heathen temple (a temple of fire.). This sanctuary is visited only on greater Muslim holidays. In two km above Hynalyg, on rocky spurs there is a cave, in which the sacred spring is located.

The water flours from here through ceramic pipes and a stone aqueduct to courtyards of local residents and to the central area of Hynalyg. There, on celebrations and during general meetings, all population of Hynalyg converges. There was an ethnographic museum in the ancient big building located in the center of village, but now, it is being restored and all the exposition of the museum is disassembled to houses of the Hynalygs. Inhabitants of the village talk to each other in their Hynalyg language. Inhabitants communicate to visitors in Azerbaijani.

Some older persons (men) know Russian. Around the settlement on abrupt clones the remains of an ancient cemetery were saved. There are located five-layer burial places in stone funeral chambers testifying to ancient origin of Hynalyg. The Hynalygs esteem their ancient customs, ceremonies. Weddings, other celebrations and rituals are organized, as well as it was accepted earlier by their ancestors.

From ancient crafts there was saved almost nothing, but knitting from wool, basically, the multi-colored ornament socks (jhorabs). Because of the increased popularity of this ancient settlement the stream of tourists in Hynalyg has increased. That's why there sprang many names of dishes of national kitchen and household customs. Very popular time spending of the Hynalygs and one of the income sources became picking curative grasses and flowers, which are dried, used in food and sold to visitors.
From settlement on an abrupt hillside the soil track on pass Hynalyg through which it is possible to get on a high-mountainous plateau "Shah Yaylag" winds, and also to make an ascention on mountain Shahdag (4242 ì.below the sea level.) or on Gyzylgaya hills (3700 ì.below the sea level.). On one of tops of a hills of Gyzylgaya in 1997 is established a bronze bas-relief to the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev. Through pass Hynalyg it is possible to get to the lezghin settlement Lazah located in gorge of the river Gusarchaj.

From pass on a high-mountainous plateau "Shah Yaylag" in settlement Lazah is conducted with a horse track. Distance from Hynalyg up to Lazah is about 30 km. An inhabitant of Hynalyg Aliev Ashraf can offer tourists horse rounds in vicinities of settlement, and also horse travel on high-mountainous plateaus "Shah Yaylag" and "Shah Nabat", where in deep olden time inhabitants of high-mountainous settlements gathered for fairs, competed in jumps, and also in competitions on national struggle.
